Disaster Preparedness

Disasters are sporadic they happen with little to no notice and cause billions of dollars in damages.  Since 1980 “the United States have experienced over 24 earthquakes, 392 storms, and 132 floods (FEMA,2014) ” equating to over 4.8 billion dollars spent on disaster related damages.

In Louisiana, both natural and manmade disasters are quite common as evidenced by increasing tropical storms, hurricanes, and oil spills. Every disaster that hits our state brings increased risk of loss of life and property. In order to reduce this risk there is a need for disaster preparedness training to build community awareness, preparation, and empowerment. Which is why we developed a series of community disaster preparedness workshops.
