In Louisiana, both natural and manmade disasters were quite common, as evidenced by increasing tropical storms, hurricanes, and oil spills. Every disaster that impacted the state brought an increased risk of loss of life and property. To reduce this risk, there was a critical need for disaster preparedness training to build community awareness, preparation, and empowerment. This need led to the development of a series of community disaster preparedness workshops.
In The Past
Initially, we developed the workshops as part of a graduate research project focused on disaster planning. They were free and, at the time, only open to current residents of Geismar, Louisiana. A light breakfast was provided, and every workshop participant received a FREE GIFT. Workshops could also be scheduled for a minimum of four people.
Today
Today, we proudly offer these workshops nationwide in collaboration with The K.A.P.S. Disaster Hub! While most sessions are conducted through The K.A.P.S. Disaster Hub, we occasionally provide free or discounted preparedness workshops for vulnerable communities. To host a workshop in your community, please email us at admin@leonaskingsandqueens.org.
